A new study has demonstrated significant benefits of supplementing with natural eggshell membrane for reducing inflammation and improving cartilage health.

Natural eggshell membrane (NEM) is isolated from eggshells using a patented process and is composed of naturally occurring glycosaminoglycans including glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate, hyaluronic acid and collagen in a single, natural matrix.

In the new study, researchers from Korea used a rat model of osteoarthritis to investigate the effects of NEM on markers of inflammation. The results are consistent with findings from previous research and found once again that NEM demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, specifically on known key inflammation markers interleukin 1-beta (IL-1b) and C-Reactive Protein (CRP). The researchers also noted chondroprotective effects from the NEM treatment – circulating cartilage degrading enzymes known as Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) were reduced following the treatment as was cartilage degradation biomarker CTX-II.

April Knell, marketing co-ordinator for Stratum Nutrition (global distributor for NEM) commented,

“The most recent study further confirms research we had done on the mode of action and on it’s anti-inflammatory effects. The chondroprotective data was the first evidence we’ve had of that.”

For the millions of people who suffer with joint health problems associated with inflammation and cartilage breakdown, NEM is being seen as a major breakthrough for its potential to not only relieve symptoms but also protect cartilage against further breakdown.
