10 Common Signs Your Gut Needs Help
Gut bacteria aren’t usually the first thing people think of when they’ve gained a few pounds, are feeling a bit low, or even craving a 4pm Kit Kat! Yet it probably should be.
Extensive research has now been carried out on the ‘gut microbiome’; the trillion or so bacteria that live in your gut and affect pretty much every aspect of your health.
The gut microbiome acts as an important interface between you and your environment. Everything you eat and drink, and environmental toxins too, are all modulated in some way by the gut microbiome. In fact, the gut microbiome is now considered to be so beneficial to health, that it is considered almost to be an organ in its own right.
Needless to say, you need to look after it. And that means nurturing a healthy balance. More than 1000 different types of bacteria live in the large intestine and many of these are helpful but some can be harmful. This balance between good and bad is crucially important to your health. When the gut bacteria are out of balance, some common symptoms can start to occur.
Here’s 10 common signs your gut bacteria may be out of balance:
1. Wind, belching & bloating
2. Abdominal pain
3. Nausea
4. Headaches
5. Constipation and / or diarrhoea
6. Low energy / Sugar cravings
7. Low mood
8. Weight gain
9. Prone to illness & infection
10. Food allergy / intolerance
